• Regular Activities EIS has a variety of regular social events & activities going on. These are pretty relaxed and open with no pressure to do anything you don’t want to. If you fancy having a look, just ask one of the workers – all welcome. It may often be possible to get a lift if you need one, or to bring a friend along too if you like, and won’t normally cost you a penny. FOOTBALL – Run by Kelly, Steph, (aka the famous football girls), David, Simon & Andy – every Wednesday afternoon at the indoor pitch at Ponds Forge. This is a really popular & fun group. No pressure to join in or compete – just come & watch if you prefer, or join in the chill out time in Ponds Forge café before or after the game. There are occasional league-type matches too. Meet about 2.15pm in Ponds Forge café. RECOVERY GROUP – Every Friday afternoon – usually meeting 1pm at Ponds Forge café. The group has a different activity every week, open to everyone. Recently it’s included things like 10 pin bowling, snooker, a walk in the park, Laser-Quest, a meal at Jumbo’s Chinese buffet, going to the pub, ice skating etc etc – in fact, feel free to suggest other stuff too if you fancy it. Again, mostly this is all free, but we might ask for a small contribution sometimes. Back into Training and Employment workshops – (“BITE” for short) – these workshops are organised by Laura and Helen. They are open to anyone in EIS and can be really helpful in getting skills, confidence and practical help to get on with your life. Occasional Other Stuff – Every now and then, if people are interested and if we can scrape some money together, we’ll do something BIGGER! Recent things have been a fantastic rock-climbing day in the Peak District, football tournaments in York and elsewhere, a trip to London etc. Other other stuff - Walking group, Weekend activities, Carers’ support group, Step ahead group/workshops, understanding psychosis, Early intervention training for GPs, schools, colleges, anyone. These are groups and activities that happen occasionally if people want them. If you do – tell us! And finally…. EIS are really keen to involve clients & carers in the working & running of the service. We always have clients sitting on the interview panel when we are recruiting new staff, and are always after volunteers to help out with things, to contribute to various meetings and work groups and generally have a say in how the service works - this really helps quite a lot to make EIS stronger & better. If you are interested, or just want to check it out - contact Steve Day (0114 226 4851) or any of the EIS workers. - Hope you can get involved! |
